Rich and strange.

Word Cloud

That's a word cloud of the first three chapters of my novel, created with Wordle. I've been in an angsty fog lately -- it seems to be going around -- and concentrating on getting my novel sold is helping me shine a light through it. Right now, I'm debating whether it is better to query a senior agent who has sold work similar to mine (and who also represents graphic novels) or to an associate agent at the same agency who seems to be looking for work like mine. I'm leaning toward the latter; new agents need new clients, and they can still benefit from the guidance of the senior agents at their agency.

Starting on a new novel helps, too. Mostly, I've just been sketching -- getting to know my main character, discovering her story. I've been thinking a lot about the fluidity of our identities, how we transition from being the person we are at fifteen to the person we are at thirty. I've been using the word Protean.

Also, on a related note, I've been thinking about how much Michael Krasny (if you listen to KQED radio you know who he is) overuses the phrase "sea change." It's such a lovely combination of words that Shakesy gave us; we shouldn't cheapen its beauty by using it too often.

As far as I know there is no professional taboo against sending to a junior agent after the senior one has rejected it. Aim high. So long as the senior agent still accepts unsolicited queries, there is no reason not to try.

Speaking of which, I now feel bad about not being as on top of my own search as I should be. I should send out some queries today.

This agency says not to resubmit to another agent after it has been rejected by one.

Is it possible for us to know the title of the book? I would like to look up on it when it's ready. =)

Also good luck. I've always wanted to write a book, so I am envious right now, heh.
