Well. This is amazingly bad, but not nearly amazingly horrible as it could be.
A drunk driver smashed through the front of the SLG offices at one a.m. on Saturday morning. I was the last of everyone to know about it because my cell phone hasn't been working, so I walked into a very shocking scene this morning. (In my great tradition, chance and circumstance kept me from coming in to help clean up.)
The car plowed through the front door and windows, into my desk, then into the production scanning station. When I arrived this morning, there were no traces of my desk left, just its contents in several cardboard boxes and on the order department cart. I had a lot of stuff in my desk.
My computer--and its creamy data center--survived, with a few scratches. The keyboard I am using is a bit wonky, one of my pictures of Oscar Wilde is missing, my little Seven Gods figurines were all torn from their base, but that's not much to complain about, is it? Had this happened at a time when I was at my desk, I would be dead, I'm certain.
I've been sorting through all my papers, taking pictures and encountering chunks of glass all morning. Jeez. What a weird, frickin' thing.

Must be the season. Someone backed into my dad's library not too long ago. We came home from a funeral to an answering machine message: "Hey, Chris? There's a gaping hole in the wall of your office..."

Anyway, I'm so sorry this had to happen to you, but so relieved that no one was hurt. I can sympathize on the horrible feeling one gets--when I was younger and living at home, an 18-wheeler smashed into our house and into the family room one evening, about half an hour after people who'd been sitting on the sofa right under the impact zone had gone to bed. :( So, at any rate, I'm relieved that no one was working late last night! Computer still being in one piece is clearly an added bonus. :)

Granny, lurk no more.
CHEEEEzus.I hope you've recovered from the shock.
So, hi there. My name's Meredith Yayanos and I've been lurking on LJ for a while now, accountless, quietly perusing your blog and many others. Last week I finally gave up the ghost and got an account. May I add you? For I too am addicted to Rasputina and comic books and stripey tights and Love In The Time of Cholera and I always enjoy reading what you have to say.
Cheers!
