Craft Project, courtesy of Andi

Andi has been guest-blogging at the Blog@Newsarama this week, and Tuesday he posted a little crafts project to make a standie of Charlotte Brook, the character from his upcoming graphic novel Clubbing.

So of course I printed out the project sheet on some heavy paper, pulled out the box of 64 Crayola crayons (never use anything else when it comes to crayons!), and got to work.

I decided to add some accessories for Lottie -- a fat kitten, a pet starling, a squeezy toy pig, and a cup of tea. Witness my drawing skillz. The starling isn't half-bad, eh? I've always liked to draw birds. My earliest models for this were my pet parakeets. The colors aren't quite right in any of these pictures, but I'm too tired to fix them right now.

Then I got the scissors, X-Acto knife, cutting matte, and did the tough part. I'm lousy at cutting things out. The result:

Lottie Standie, complete

I didn't cut her out the way Andi did in his example because I couldn't get a nice, clean cut around her the way he did. But I think this works just as well.

Unfortunately, the toner flaked off a bit on the print out -- I should have printed it at home on the inkjet, rather than on the laser at work. But Andi's inking style hides most of that.  I'm not very happy with how I colored her dress. I put red in a few wrong places on accident. Ah, well. The project was a lot of fun. I love to color.
